Biblical counseling is an approach to counseling that uses the Bible to address the issues in the lives of individuals, couples, and families. The core belief is that the Bible is the inspired word of God and therefore has the answers to all of life’s questions. A primary focus of counseling is to develop a biblical worldview. In addition, an emphasis is placed on helping clients to understand the true nature of God and His love for us.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a form of Brief Counseling. This type of counseling focuses on finding solutions to current issues. Time is spent helping clients find exceptions to the problem, times when the problem does not occur and times when the client experiences success. Clients are assisted with moving toward their preferred future rather than continuing to allow their present troubles to paralyze them. SFBT tends to be brief in nature, averaging 6-8 sessions.
JCS combines these approaches to best serve each client. It is the belief of JCS that these approaches work very well together and lead to successful outcomes for the majority of clients served.
